Designer's Chairs 3 - Pierre Paulin

The hotness has weakened lately in Japan. Autumn must be coming!

Today we would like to introduce the work of French designer Pierre Pauline.

Since the 1950's, Pauline has been playing an active role in designing space and furniture. His extraordinary but yet body friendly designs are admired all over the world.

He started his career as a furniture designer in 1954 at Thonet in France.
In 1958, he introduced "mushroom" and "orange slice" chair when he was working at Artifort in Netherlands.

                                          < mushroom >

                                          < orange slice >

Many of the masterpieces were made at this time, which shows that Paulin has been attracting people at his early stage of career. But life was not as easy as it seems.
In his early lifetime, he was training to be a sculptor, but ended giving up his dream by breaking his right arm through a fight.

You can trace such experience and humanness in his figurative designs.  The two chairs introduced in 1966 are those representatives.

                                                < Ribbon >

                                                   < Tongue >

Both chairs look as its naming, still leaving room for us to imagine what other things they might be.

His first exhibition in Japan will be held in Ginza
from September 2nd to 26th.

At this exhibition, you can not only see his artworks but also actually sit on them.

How about spending your time to explore Paulin’s innovations?

Visiting hhstyle and Cassina ixc

We hope you are keeping well, in spite of the lingering summer heat.
According to the Japanese lunar calendar,
it has already been autumn for two weeks,
but the summer heat is continuing.

We visited two furniture showrooms, [hhstyle] and [Cassina ixc],
the famous manufacturers in Gaienmae, Tokyo, Japan.

As you go inside, you will find toys, clocks, furniture and interiors designed by famous designers like Eames, Nelson, Noguchi, and Jacobsen beautifully displayed.

The fluorescent green colored catalog is eye-catching!

From the catalog, you'll get  explanations of the items,
and also the history of modern furnitures.

We are pretty sure that you will like their collection,
and will want to stay there as long as you can.
The second store was Cassina ixc, which is located only 5 minutes away from hhstyle.

If you have a chance to take a tour with a staff,
they will show you the details of each item.

Now at the store,they show
"STILL LIFE Exhibition - - Dedicated to Giorgio Morandi."
(until Sunday August 24th.)

The art works exhibited are tributes of Italian artist Morandi.
It felt like visiting a museum.

We deal in both hhstyle and Cassina ixc items,
so please stop by our show room when you come close to Tranomon
and feel free to contact us at any time.
