Christmas around the world

We've got only half a month left before new year coming.

Christmas is coming pretty soon, "Christmas around the world" is  being held right now at the western style buildings located in Yamate, Yokohama.

I'd like to introduce some of their Christmas displays.

The Christmas balls designed by Arne & Carlos are hung on the tree.
Red and While knitted balls have traditional patterns on them. It reminds us warm Christmas celebration.

We feel as if we were in the deep forest when seeing the display. Dining table are coordinated in green and gold.

Ornaments are gorgeous and elegant enough to fit in the classical English room. There's also another Christmas tree outside decorated with different ornaments.
Each country has its own style of decoration for the Christmas tree.

Exhibition (artek/ Karimoku/ Discipline)

During the Designer's Week, there was an exhibition  held at the Studio in Omotesando where three brands “artek”  of Finland, “KARIMOKU New Standard” of Japan, “Discipline” of Italy gathered.
“artek” has released new model of “Stool No.60”, which is Alva Aalto’s masterpiece celebrates 80th anniversary this year. Some of them are covered with leather or fabric and the others are  colored and  have unique pattern on the seats. They have simple but universal design so that we can enjoy having one of them for our own.
Karimoku, manufacture of wood furniture for 70 years, launched "KARIMOKU New standard". This line was born out of the collaboration with some of the international designers. The size of the furniture is considered for habitation in Japan, and they have  light and soft impression because of their colors and shapes.
"Discipline" , which had already released first collection at Milano Salone and also collaborated with international designers and introduced tableware, art work and wide variety of interior items.
We can enjoy our interior decoration with those new designs.

Arflex - New Sofa

We visited one of our best partners, Arflex's newness exhibition the other day.

They have several newness both in Arflex and Molteni &C, but this sofa called "Mercado" was really impressive!

Its theme is " Link to me?".
We use tablet PCs, we read, and we watch TV... We do all different kind of things separetly in one room, but also want to "connect" with others.
It represents our current life of "individuals but connected".

The sofa has various kind of desings that you can coordinate without limitation.
You can sit together with kids, relax with the legs open... Kids can also play on the sofa.

"Mercado" means market in Italian. The brand uses this word to represent "the room like market."

We are able to introduce you this sofa on lease and sales.
Please contact us for any requests or questions!

Showroom display has been refreshed!

We recently refreshed our showroom display for winter and it seems like winter season has already come.

White and pale green fabric are used for Bedding. The theme of Bed room is Scandinavian style.

Living & Dining space is coordinated as one room.

The sofa covered with white leather looks luxury and modern in a usual style, but if it's put in L line, it can be a homelike atmosphere.

We're looking forward to welcoming you with seasonal display at our showroom.

Creation Bauman - Fall Newness

We're afraid of upcoming Typhoon this weekend in Tokyo...!

We went to visit Creation bauman's Fall newness exhibition the other day.

Thir theme of this season is "Chic and Classy", and they have 3 big collections which are
Print, Jacquard & Chair covering.

My favorite was their main collection "Print" which introduces vivid ink jet printed flowers, birds and butterflies as picture shown.

Most of their jacquard drape curtains are reversible,  and they look differently seeing them from front or back.

Chair covering uses classical velvet fabrics, and its multi color stripe and dot designs are recommended for cushions.

This is thier permanent collection, "Eluis" which is inspired by Japanese ORIGAMI.
Its steric shapes are really creative.

We had a delicious chocolate from "Blondel" at the exhibition, too.
It's a  humber cut chocolate of traditional Swiss ingredients  with aromatic flavors.

We are able to introduce Creation bauman's full collection at May's.
Please ask us for any needs of stylish and creative curtains & fabrics!

Seminar

The other day, the fabric manufacturer Tomita textile introduced us new series of fabric released in this autumn.

This time, they showed us the collection of JANE CHURCHILL, a brand of traditional English style mixed with modern style.
We could see the fabric samples and found thier new texture and colors.
We'd like to introduce some of them.

The splashed pattern has been popular since this spring. It reminds us of a japanese traditional pattern. There are some color variations and they look different depending on colors.
Antique and lustrous fabric suits for chair and sofa cloth. The texture looks different depending on how it scratched.
The pattern of flowers and coral colors are good for cushion as accents of the room.
The pattern of ring stripes look attractive for large windows.
It’s good to enjoy various fabrics for even a small cushion, chairs, sofas and curtain.

Interior Accessories - Framed pictures

The framed pictures are one of the important elements of the interior decoration.
By arranging the wall which is the large part of the room with some pictures or paintings, it can be a focal point, which people's eyes are fixed on. To match the taste and colors used in the space, the interior decoration could  be more effective.

Talking about the recent exhibiton at the museum, "American Pop Art" has been held until late October  at the National Art Center Tokyo.

A large number of well-known works by Andy Warhol, Jasper Johnes and other major figures of Pop Art in 1960s America, which you may have seen once are introduced in it.

Those contemporary arts look still new even nowadays and can be one of the main parts of the room if hanged on the wall as interior accessories.

If not, there are lots to learn from a color scheme and composition of those works  in order to get some ideas for interior decoration for your own room.

Why not to find your favorite pictures or paintings at a museum and a gallery?

Tokyo's new spot

Today, we’d like to introduce Tokyo’s new shopping spot, “mAAch Kanda-Manseibashi”!

There used to be prosperous train station “Manseibashi”  here along the river about 100 years ago, but it had been used as a train museum since it closed after World War Ⅱ.

They recently renovated the building using the old platforms and just opened this shopping mall on September 14th.

The mall contains 11 shops and restaurants and the antique-look red brick exterior looks beautiful.

We recommend this bakery, café “haluta”, which serves Scandinavian dishes and also sell a Danish furniture brand, HAY.
This is their first store in Tokyo.

There are also some interesting restaurants such as “Japanese Izaka-ya (dining bar) in France” and “Closest café to the train”.

French Oden (Japanese soy-flavoured stew)

Why don’t you go and find a new Tokyo?

Interior Lighting

It is now September but Tokyo is very hot like it is still the middle of the summer!
I’m looking forward to Fall coming but will also miss Summer.
This time we would like to introduce some Scandinavian designer lamps.

The first one is Le Clint which is often seen in cafes. It is a masterpiece of Denmark and also has a Danish Royal Warrant.
It warmly illuminates with its layered shape.

Le Klint is currently collaborating with Moomin. How cute!
http://www.leklint.com/

The PH series is also a Danish design best seller. Its original curved shade shuts out the direct rays and lights up gently.

Arne Jacobsen, known for furniture design, also succeeded with the AJ lamp design.

And,this is the latest desigh from Scandinavia.
It’s a collaboration work of design companies “Form Us With Love” of Sweden and “One Nordic” of Finland.

This simple, scandinavian look lamp won the Form +1 award at the Stockholm Furniture Fair.

May’s is able to introduce you to the best lamps for your room.
Please feel free to contact us for any of your interior needs!

Redeveloping area― Toranomon

It has been getting cooler in the mornings and evenings these days.
How are you coping?

It’s already been 2 weeks since our showroom moved and we are now settled into our new place.
It only takes about 7 minutes on foot from either Kamiya-cho station or Toranomon station.
It’s very convenient from both train stations.

What draws us to this redeveloping area is Toranomon Hills, a skyscraper project under construction, which will open next year.

They plan to use the building as a hotel, private residences, retail space and garden. And not only the building, but also a new road is now under construction.

Toranomon, which is near the government municipal offices and embassies, will become more active and add the effect of a new lifestyle.

Near Kamiya-cho station, “MORI TRUST GARDEN TORA4” is now open in a limited time.

There are many facilities such as cafés, a rental vegetable garden, futsal yard, moving theatre and many people gather in the community garden to enjoy the late summer.
We’ll be happy to introduce more of our surrounding neighborhood in the future.

Designer chairs 2 – Charles & Ray Eames

The most popular and well known designers in Japan are perhaps Charles & Ray Eames.
Charles was born in Missouri in USA and studied architecture in Washington University.

Ray was born in Sacramento, California and studied art. She married Charles in 1941.
Actually, Ray was his second wife, and they kept working together as design partners for over 40 years after their marriage.
They made a contract with Herman Miller and introduced the “Shell side chair” which became a masterpiece of the century. It is simple, yet beautiful, and also matched with the needs of mass production.
<DSR>
They have succeeded not only in architecture and interior designs, but also in art, films and graphics.
We often have a lot of exhibitions and TV programs about them here in Japan.

<Lounge chair and ottoman>
Please let us know if you are interested in their chairs and accessories. We’re here to help you decorate your room.
 <Hang it all>
