Interior shops in Aoyama

Today I’d like to introduce several interior shops in Tokyo, Aoyama.

This triangle shaped building is the showroom for “Minotti”, a textile and furnishing brand originated in Milan.

Around this area, Tokyo designer’s week was held from 10.25-11.03.
It’s an international design event which celebrated its 29th anniversary this year.  The event mainly takes place at Meiji Jingu Gaienmae, but the festival influences a wide area in Tokyo every year.
For example, many interior brands introduce their new collections while this event. So it is a good timing to visit these shops during the festival for sure, and even after the festival to avoid the crowd.

The showroom for “è interiors” stands across Nezu museum. You should also take a look at the building planned by Piero Lissoni.  The picture is a model room display for one-room apartment (In Japan so called “1LDK”).

This is a new side table from è interiors. The half-piped leg could be nested to the other, which makes the table stack-able.

The showroom of Flexform lies between è interiors and Minotti.

The day bed on the right hand is “Magi” which won the Elle Deco design award this year.

Besides these mentioned places, there are more showrooms around this Aoyama area, such as Fritz Hansen, estic, GERVAZONI, etc…etc.
How about taking a walk to feel the breeze of new trends?

Autum table coordination

Hot summer has ended, and the season has changed to autumn.
It’s starting to cool off now.

In Japan, we say autumn is the season for good harvestreading, sports and arts... There are a lot of pronouns to describe autumn, but above all, we cannot miss “the autumn of the appetite”.

So today, we would like to share you some tips about autumn table coordination to enjoy your delicious meal.

The main point of autumn coordination is to use warm colors, such as brown, red, and orange based colors, which may remind you of “the blessing crops brought from earth”, as well as “coloring leaves”.

Within the warm colors, “orange” is said to be “the most appetizing color”. Easy coordination can be achieved by imagining season’s color.

Below pictures may give you some inspiration.
How about decorating the table with seasonal accessories?

Orange based coordination will stimulate your appetite.

Autumn-like feeling may increase by adding pumpkins and pinecones.

Even with whitish coordination, pumpkin gives you the feeling of refreshing autumn.

Designer's Chairs 3 - Pierre Paulin

The hotness has weakened lately in Japan. Autumn must be coming!

Today we would like to introduce the work of French designer Pierre Pauline.

Since the 1950's, Pauline has been playing an active role in designing space and furniture. His extraordinary but yet body friendly designs are admired all over the world.

He started his career as a furniture designer in 1954 at Thonet in France.
In 1958, he introduced "mushroom" and "orange slice" chair when he was working at Artifort in Netherlands.

                                          < mushroom >

                                          < orange slice >

Many of the masterpieces were made at this time, which shows that Paulin has been attracting people at his early stage of career. But life was not as easy as it seems.
In his early lifetime, he was training to be a sculptor, but ended giving up his dream by breaking his right arm through a fight.

You can trace such experience and humanness in his figurative designs.  The two chairs introduced in 1966 are those representatives.

                                                < Ribbon >

                                                   < Tongue >

Both chairs look as its naming, still leaving room for us to imagine what other things they might be.

His first exhibition in Japan will be held in Ginza
from September 2nd to 26th.

At this exhibition, you can not only see his artworks but also actually sit on them.

How about spending your time to explore Paulin’s innovations?

Visiting hhstyle and Cassina ixc

We hope you are keeping well, in spite of the lingering summer heat.
According to the Japanese lunar calendar,
it has already been autumn for two weeks,
but the summer heat is continuing.

We visited two furniture showrooms, [hhstyle] and [Cassina ixc],
the famous manufacturers in Gaienmae, Tokyo, Japan.

As you go inside, you will find toys, clocks, furniture and interiors designed by famous designers like Eames, Nelson, Noguchi, and Jacobsen beautifully displayed.

The fluorescent green colored catalog is eye-catching!

From the catalog, you'll get  explanations of the items,
and also the history of modern furnitures.

We are pretty sure that you will like their collection,
and will want to stay there as long as you can.
The second store was Cassina ixc, which is located only 5 minutes away from hhstyle.

If you have a chance to take a tour with a staff,
they will show you the details of each item.

Now at the store,they show
"STILL LIFE Exhibition - - Dedicated to Giorgio Morandi."
(until Sunday August 24th.)

The art works exhibited are tributes of Italian artist Morandi.
It felt like visiting a museum.

We deal in both hhstyle and Cassina ixc items,
so please stop by our show room when you come close to Tranomon
and feel free to contact us at any time.

Simmons Exhibition

Tokyo has been extremely hot these days. We hope everyone is well.

Today, we would like to introduce to you the Simmons Exhibition held in the middle of July. Very many people were there despite the hot, humid weather.

This is Simmons' new collection bed. Urethan is spread over the pocket coil mattress (every single coil spring is set into the cylindraceous pocket, and each pocket is set in line). The urethan is very soft, compared to other Simmons' pocket coil mattresses.

This is an adjustable bed with pocket coil mattress. The mattress does not have the wire in the edge so that it can convert its shape. Despite the non-wire spec, the mattress still keeps its soundness to hold the body. You can sleep on the edge of the bed, for each coil supports your body well.

This vivid-red-colored reclining sofa is from Fjords. Its softness and soundness would make you fall asleep in a minute! There are wide variety of shapes and colors of reclining sofas so you could find your favorite one.

There is one of Simmons' pocket coil mattresses called "Beautyrest selection" in our showroom. Please see and lie down on it when you come nearby.
